With a lift-served summit at 11,500 feet and a 2,300-foot vertical drop, the Arizona Snowbowl on the western slope of Mount Humphreys is the tallest point in Arizona.
Just 7 miles from downtown Flagstaff, “The Peaks”, as it’s known by locals, opened in 1938 and now operates 32 runs across 777 acres of skiable terrain. What’s more, the Arizona Snowbowl is a Power Pass destination.
The Arizona Snowbowl has a ski and snowboard school with group and private lessons designed for ages 4 and up, not to mention an adaptive ski program. The resort has an on-mountain rental shop – Snowbowl Sports – with equipment rentals and repair services.
There are a number of dining options on the mountain, from grab-and-go breakfast burritos and an outdoor taco stand, to sit-down family eateries. Arizona Snowbowl does not have ski-in/ski-out lodging, but accommodation options for all budgets are plentiful in nearby Flagstaff.
The Arizona Snowbowl usually opens mid- to late November and closes mid-April, though the best snow is often from January to March. Because of the ski area’s popularity and ease of access, avoid weekends and holidays for shorter lift lines and lower lodging prices.
